Our First Day of School + How We Can Help Others

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I can't believe this kid started 4th grade this year! It seem's just like yesterday we were walking into his Mother's Day Out Program and he could barely talk. The summer flew by this year and before I knew it, we were scrambling to prepare for a new school year. Before August hits, I always make it a tradition to go through our closets  and see what doesn't fit from last year so I would know exactly what type of school clothing we would need to purchase to start our new year. One of our favorite things to do every year is school supply shopping. We always make it a mommy and son date night where we purchase popcorn and slushie's and then go through our school supply list. Did you know that each year, 1 million students fail to graduate high school? This scary statistic proves it is increasingly important to support today's youth.

I always make it a tradition to make a big breakfast per the request of the kids so they can start their First Day of School with a full belly. This year, my oldest started school first and next week my youngest will start school.  My oldest's request this year was chocolate chip pancakes and lots of donuts! It was quite a successful breakfast. This Back-to-School season, BGCA and their long time partner Disney have launched an online supply drive. By simply playing a pop-quiz style game, you can help donate school supplies to local BGCA clubs and for every 5 correct answers, a donation of supplies will be made!  For just a few minutes of your time, you can make a huge difference in a child's life.  The BGCA website offers a wide variety of ideas for your to prepare to send your children back to school including ideas on homework hints for parents which is something I will be using this school year and helping your children to set goals for success.

Now  I know the  first day of school can be stressful for parents, the kids, and of course our teachers so I always make sure I send a little gift to our new teacher to help sweeten up her day. What traditions do you have for your kids? I would love to hear them!
