How To Start A Cookbook Club
A few weeks ago, I shared some behind the scenes via Instagram about our Cookbook Club and I got several messages asking what we do and how we figure out what we are cooking so I decided to write a little blog post to help answer all your questions. First off, I want to mention that I joined the group recently so I have not been in the club as long as of the other girls but I can definitely share some great tips if you have been thinking of starting your cookbook club with your girlfriends!
HOW TO START A COOKBOOK CLUB
PICK YOUR COOKBOOK CLUB MEMBERS
- I know this may sound silly but it is SO important that when you start a cookbook club that you carefully decide who you invite to be part of it. I am saying not to invite all your favorite girlfriends however you will want to consider which of your friends actually like to cook and would enjoy being part of the cookbook club. You also want to consider how many people you want to include in your group and maybe take that number and add five more to account for the few that will have to miss due to other reasons.
DECIDE ON A COOKBOOK
2. Choosing a cookbook is very important for your cookbook club. Things you want to consider is how complex each recipe is and the availability of ingredients. You definitely also want to think about how much time it takes to cook each recipe and what is realistic for everyone in the group. Our cookbook club is finishing up our book right now and we were cooking from Chrissy Tiegen's cookbook Cravings and it was super easy to follow and all the dishes were so good! Our cookbook club runs for one year and in May, we will be introducing a new cookbook. I shared some of my favorite cookbooks HERE that would be great picks for your cookbook club!
DECIDE HOW OFTEN YOU WILL MEET AND WHO WILL HOST
3. After you have your group put together and your cookbook picked out, you then need to decide how often you will meet and where you will meet. For our cookbook club, we meet bi-monthly which is best for all of us and our busy schedules and we take turns hosting. There are no particular rules when it comes to hosting and each person can go as fancy or as casual as they want and we normally bring wine to share. You can also pick a particular day that cookbook club will always falls on or you can decide as dates get closer. Communication is very important to make sure everyone gets the information so I recommend creating a private Facebook group or a group email. The Host should plan to reach out to the group a few weeks in advance with all the details so it gives everyone time to figure out what dish they will bring.
ENJOY YOURSELF
4. Last but not least, the key of cookbook club is to make is as stress free as possible. The point of cookbook club is to enjoy some time with your best girlfriends and indulge in some delicious food! I always look forward to cookbook club and literally, it is like Thanksgiving with all the yummy dishes to try and it's the best way to cook your way through a cookbook and not actually have to do all the cooking!
